In Every Generation

World Premiere at Victory Gardens Rescheduled for Spring 2022!

October 5, 2021 by ali Leave a Comment

IN EVERY GENERATION

World Premiere

April 2 – May 1, 2022

Victory Gardens Theater | Chicago, IL

By Ali Viterbi

Directed by Devon de Mayo

Each Passover, for four millennia, we ask: why is this night different from all other nights? And each year, the Levi-Katz clan has answered, while struggling with questions of race and religion that never seem to get resolved. The family finds strength in tradition (vegan brisket or no); but each year of celebration brings more pressing questions about the future: if trauma is generational, then must we be defined by it? Will we ever be free? Written by Ali Viterbi, In Every Generation was the 2019 winner of the National Jewish Playwriting Contest, and will have its world premiere at Victory Gardens, staged by Devon de Mayo (If I Forget, Victory Gardens).

More information about the play and tickets can be found here. And the full announcement for Victory Garden’s spectacular 2021-2022 season can be found here.

Production of IN EVERY GENERATION at the San Diego REP!

IN EVERY GENERATION

May 26 – June 19, 2022

San Diego Repertory Theatre | San Diego, CA | Lyceum Space

By Ali Viterbi

Directed by Todd Salovey

IN EVERY GENERATION will receive its 2nd production at the San Diego Repertory Theatre!

One family. One holiday. Four millennia. The Levi-Katz family celebrates Passover again and again—1416 BCE, 1954, 2019 and 2050 to be exact! While the time, location, and language changes, the traditions stay the same. Over matzah ball soup and (vegan) brisket, this close-knit clan contends with questions of race, religion, and inter-generational trauma. The present echoes the past—and the past the present—as the family repeatedly reenacts the exodus from Egypt, each time asking themselves: must we define ourselves through trauma? Will we ever be free? And why is this night different from all other nights?

More information about the play and tickets can be found here. And the full announcement for San Diego REP’s  2021-2022 season can be found here in the San Diego Union Tribune.
