Deadheads is a love letter, an ode to a dying generation and a dying relationship. The two-character play explores Sadie and Ethan’s twenty-year relationship as they follow the Grateful Dead. Spanning twenty-five years from 1975-2000 in a non-chronologic order, most of the play is set in various motel rooms across the country located near Dead concerts. As Sadie and Ethan follow the Dead, we follow the triumphs and travails of their relationship. Sadie and Ethan’s rollercoaster of a relationship mirrors the journey of Deadheads and the effects of wavering love, disillusionment, and radical social change on the post-hippie generation.
